The main purpose of an ultrasonographer is to get the best quality ultrasound examination on a patient of any age, in a very caring and timely manner.
- Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations independently.
- Works with the radiologist and other specialty physicians in establishing appropriate protocols for ultrasound examinations.
- Assists physicians as needed with ultrasound guided procedures.
- Evaluates ultrasound images at the completion of each patient in order to ensure they are sufficient for radiologist interpretation.
- Maintains ultrasound equipment and work area, and maintains adequate supplies.
- Utilizes appropriate disinfectant for both standard and high level disinfection of ultrasound probes.
- Completes all required competencies in the time allowed.
- Answers telephone calls and utilizes the phone system functions.
- Schedules patients for any/all exams when necessary
- Utilizes all computer and software systems proficiently including but not limited to electronic medical record/ hospital information system, PACS, & teleradiology systems.
- Always follows the necessary patient identification procedures to ensure the “correct patient, correct procedure, correct date” is ensured. (Practice AIDET)
- Must be able to communicate to patients in written and verbal form in order to properly explain procedures as well as gather pertinent information prior to performing certain procedures.
- Shares responsibility for completing various QC and other departmental tasks as requested.
- Performs other work-related duties as assigned

Shifts: 0730 - 1700, with a possibility to pick up extra hours when needed.
Requirements
- Current ARDMS certification in one or more category or education that meets the requirements for ARDMS Testing. If the Sonographer is not currently ARDMS Registered, he/she must obtain registry within 6 months of hire.
(It will also be required to acquire an additional certification within 18 months following date of hire or transfer.)
Appropriate training in all areas of ultrasonography being performed.
- Current CPR certification
Must be able to meet the physical requirements as outlined in the Job Requirements document.
This position requires successful completion of a Physical Capacity Profile screening.
Wage commensurate with experience.
